GFRP Glass Fiber-reinforced Plastic

  • Plastics based composite material which is reinforced with glass and carbon fibers
  • If the unsaturated polyester thermosetting resin (epoxy based composite material) and glass fiber are combined, the high performance and high functional material having the light weight, corrosion resistance and good plasticity is created.
  • As a material for the light weight structure, it is widely used for the high strength structures such as aerospace craft, car and ships.

Composite Materials

It is made by combining a minimum of two or more materials, which usually present unique properties with advanced performance and functions.

Types of Composite Materials

GFRP

It is a composite material consisting of glass fiber, which is cheaper than others and it has high resistance to corrosion in saline water.

FRP

It is a plastic composite material consisting of glass and carbon fibers, which is light and has high corrosion resistance.

AFRP

It is a composite material consisting of aramid fiber. It is light and strong, but it is hard to mold.

CFRP

It is a composite material consisting of carbon fiber. Although it has excellent corrosion and chemical resistances, it has low compressive strength.

GFRP Materials / Glass Fiber
  • After melting at the high temperature (more than 1,500℃), the materials are sent through a platinum nozzle, which produces filaments. If twisting 50~2,000 strands collected by a binder, it becomes yarn. Unless the strands are twisted, it becomes roving.
  • When weaving, wrap (wp) is in the machine direction (direction of fabric), and weft (wt) is perpendicular to the wp.
